Location and geography

Founder's hammer in Lüttringhausen

The settlement is located in the Morsbach valley at 177 meters above sea level between Spelsberger Hammer and Clarenbach in the east and Platz and Gerstau in the west. It lies on the border of the districts of Lüttringhausen and Alt-Remscheid . The village of Grund is located a few hundred meters to the north and a good 40 meters above the Gründerhammer. The Grunder Bach and the Ibach flow into the Morsbach at Gründerhammer .

In Gründerhammer there were water hammers , blacksmiths and grinding booths that used the water power of the streams for metal processing in pre-industrial times . A former reservoir on the Morsbach still exists.

An ironworks and a Reckhammer were located at the Gründerhammer until 1850 . The two owners, Lutter im Grund and Wyrnke in the Siepen, made contractual agreements about the use of the water power of the Morsbach for their operations, which were especially important in summer when there was less water.

Today there are several metal processing companies and a paint factory here. There are also some craft businesses based here. An industrial company has significantly expanded its operating space, including a pedestrian bridge-like crossing.

The Cronenberger Teckelklub has its practice area near the confluence of the Ibach, where breeding shows are also held. The Ronsdorf-Müngstener Railway ran through the Morsbachtal parallel to the Morsbachtalstraße (Landesstraße 216) and was primarily used to transport raw materials and finished goods from the companies. There was a train station in Gründerhammer. Today operate public transport a sporadically served city bus route and the Remscheid Bürgerbus . A traffic light system facilitates road traffic in four directions.

In addition to other hiking trails, the Morsbach adventure trail set up as part of the Regionale 2006 and a marked bike trail run past the village.

There used to be the “Fliedergarten” excursion restaurant with a pond and lots of play facilities for children.
