The primary school Am Sternenfeld 155 is located in the Giesenkirchen district of the city of Mönchengladbach , North Rhine-Westphalia . It was built in 1867/68 and expanded in 1897 and 1912.
The two- storey brick building with eleven axes in the core structure on a low basement plinth with a gable roof is located in the residential area of Giesenkirchen-Meerkamp.
Extended to the south by four axes, extended to the north by a side wing attached to the gable . The core structure above a protruding base is divided by corner pilasters or a bracket frieze under the eaves, arched windows with sills renewed in cast stone , three-axis, flat-gabled central projection , also separated by pilaster strips and accentuated by an additional console frieze, a gable oculus and an asbestos- stone cross (verge cement slate ). Entrance doors on both sides of the risalit with stepped walls on the inside designed as a stone frame and differential steps (renewed on the right).
The back front to the school yard is divided into three by two risalits protruding in the axis of the stairwells with modified door openings, presenting a break hall in a modern steel construction. Cast iron support columns in the classrooms on the first floor. The extension to the south with the same eaves height and an adapted structure system, but greater construction depth and closer alignment of the window axes. An additional tooth frieze under the eaves . Asymmetrical windowed gable with stepped verge cover , then on the back a flat-roofed single-storey toilet extension from the 1950s, as a narrow vestibule also spanning the gable side.
The extension to the north is also covered with a gable roof and clad in brick, but the windows are properly covered and combined between recessed pilaster strips in vertical plaster wall strips . four-axis structured gable front with small-format gable windows.
The side front is asymmetrically marked by a gable placed on the axis of the stairwell , the narrower left-hand facade section is not windowed, and four window axes are on the right. Originally a walled-in side entrance with a small porch and two dormers under the stairwell windows, which are offset by half- storeys . Unfenced rear gable with asymmetrical facade protrusion, two window axes and door openings on the courtyard side. Plastic windows, but in a reproduction of the original muntin division modified in the 1912 extension.
The house was entered under No. A 013 on September 24, 1985 in the monuments list of the city of Mönchengladbach .
