The elementary school on the Insulaner is a primary school in the Berlin district of Steglitz ( Steglitz-Zehlendorf district ). The name of the school refers to the nearby mountain Insulaner , which was heaped up from the rubble of World War II .

The origin of the facility goes back to 1903. Otto Schaller (General Director of the Julius Pintsch incandescent lamp factory ) bought the property for his family. In 1928 he sold the site to the merchant Bernhard Leineweber. He also acquired the grounds of the Kotte nursery on Kottesteig. In 1938 he sold the property back to the Schaller family, who arranged for further renovation work. From now on it was used as a Catholic old people's home . In 1943 the old people's home was completely destroyed by a British bomb. The area was used for the cultivation of agricultural products after the Second World War.

The school opened on March 28, 1962 after around two years of construction. Due to the lack of space at the nearby 5th elementary school in Berlin, the school buildings were built according to plans by the architects Völker & Grosse. At the time of opening there were four schoolhouses. In 1987 there was a change in the curriculum by changing the basic orientation of the school to emphasize music. The school also has a small cafeteria , a sports field, a school garden and a wetland biotope .

In 2006 the construction of an after-school care center began, in which pupils can be looked after after the end of lessons. The building was initially due to be completed in November 2007, but did not open until the beginning of the 2008 summer vacation. A special note during the renovation should be achieved by different colors of the buildings. A renovation of the school yard took place in 2007.

The school offers English and French as foreign languages from the third grade onwards.
