The groundwater , also known as Grundbach or Hinteres Wasser , is a five-kilometer long stream that flows through the village of Eibau and flows into the Landwasser in Oderwitz . Its source is located on the southeast flank of the Kottmar . In the middle of its course there are several wells that collect the underground water for the drinking water supply of Neugersdorf .
The stream is one of the bodies of water that absorb the frequent rainfall in its lightly forested catchment area and forward it to the heavily populated Landwasser Valley. Numerous heavy rains in the past centuries have repeatedly led to devastating floods . For example, Korschelt reports in his Chronicle von Oderwitz of a flood in 1880, which caused damage to the railway embankment crossing it, to fields and buildings, and which claimed several lives.
