Grusonia moelleri is a species of plant in the genus Grusonia fromthe cactus family (Cactaceae). The specific epithet moelleri honors the Swiss doctor Heinrich Möller .

description

Grusonia moelleri has many branches. The slightly spherical, green shoot sections are 4 to 7 centimeters long and 3 to 4 centimeters in diameter. There are large elongated bumps on them. The mostly six whitish, slightly downy-haired main spines are up to 1.6 centimeters long. The upper ones are radiating and protruding, the lower ones downward and flattened. The numerous white secondary thorns are fine, the upper ones are arranged in a tuft like glochids .

The translucent greenish yellow flowers reach lengths of 5 to 6 centimeters and diameters of up to 5 centimeters. Your pericarpel is heavily tuberous and thorny.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Grusonia moelleri is common in the Mexican states of Coahuila , Durango and Zacatecas at altitudes of 800 to 1400 meters.

It was first described as Opuntia moelleri in 1929 by Alwin Berger . Edward Frederick Anderson placed the species in the genus Grusonia in 1999 . Synonyms are Cylindopuntia moelleri (A.Berger) FMKnuth (1930) and Corynopuntia moelleri (A.Berger) FMKnuth (1936).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered. The development of the populations is considered stable.
