Heinrich Möller

Heinrich Möller (also Moeller; * December 16, 1882 in Durango ; † May 27, 1945 in Steckborn ) was a Swiss doctor and cactus researcher of German- Mexican descent. Its official botanical author's abbreviation is " H.Moeller ".

Live and act

Heinrich Möller was born in Mexico on the hacienda "La Estanzuela" near Durango . After his father was shot in a gang attack, his mother, who was born in Switzerland, decided to send him to Hallau in the canton of Schaffhausen with his brother Arthur at the age of twelve . Möller received Swiss citizenship. He studied medicine and in 1911 at the University of Basel Dr. med. PhD.

Homesick for his homeland, Möller, in addition to his work as a doctor, spent his life intensively researching the Mexican flora, including astrophytes , a genus of cacti that thrives in the region where he spent his early childhood. He was able to win his remarks not least thanks to the extensive deliveries of original plants from his brother in Mexico, the engineer Arthur Möller. Möller's taxonomic descriptions are particularly important in the Astrophytum literature. Möller's cactus collection came into the possession of the Zurich Succulents Collection after his death .
