Turbinicarpus valdezianus is a species of plant in the genus Turbinicarpus from the cactus family(Cactaceae).
description
Turbinicarpus valdezianus grows individually with green, depressed spherical to somewhat spherical-cylindrical bodies , which appear white due to the dense thorns, and has a thickened turnip and fiber roots. The bodies reach heights of 1 to 2.5 centimeters and diameters of 1.5 to 2.5 (rarely up to 4) centimeters. Their flattened bumps are 2 to 3 millimeters high. There is no central spine . The more than 25 white radial spines are arranged radiating in a star shape and are 1 to 1.5 millimeters long.
The usually white flowers have a magenta central stripe of different widths or are almost completely white. Very rarely are they uniformly magenta in color. The flowers are 2.2 to 2.5 inches long and have a diameter of 2 to 2.5 (rarely up to 3.5) centimeters. The rounded to barrel-shaped fruits are dark greenish brown, dry up like paper and are brittle. They tear open from the base, are 1 to 1.3 centimeters long and have a diameter of 6 to 7 millimeters.
Systematics, distribution and endangerment
Turbinicarpus valdezianus is common in the Mexican states of Coahuila , Nuevo León , Zacatecas and San Luis Potosí . It was first described as Pelecyphora valdeziana in 1930 by Heinrich Möller . In 1977 it was placed in the genus Turbinicarpus by Charles Edward Glass and Robert Alan Foster .
Turbinicarpus valdezianus is listed in Appendix I of the Washington Convention on Endangered Species . In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is it as " Vulnerable (VU) , d". H. classified as endangered.
