Sigismund Gschwandner
Sigismund Gschwandner OSB (born March 28, 1824 in Röhrabrunn ; † August 7, 1896 in Zermatt ; actually Matthias Gschwandner ) was an Austrian Roman Catholic schoolboy .
Life
After studying high school in Znojmo and attending the Schottengymnasium in Vienna , Gschwandner studied philosophy at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate there in 1845. In 1844 he entered the Schotten Abbey , and in 1849 he was ordained a priest. From 1849 to 1880 he taught mathematics , physics and philosophy at the Schottengymnasium. In addition, he was dean of the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Vienna in 1859 and 1870 , and custodian of the physical and astronomical court cabinet from 1868 to 1871 . After working as a parish administrator in Enzersdorf im Thale from 1880 to 1882 and as a subprior of the Schottenstift in 1883, he was appointed director of the Schottengymnasium in 1886, which he headed until 1895.
Gschwandner was a member of numerous scientific associations, such as the Vienna Meteorological Society (1865), the Vienna Geological Society (1865), the Astronomical Society (1869), the Vienna Chemical-Physical Society (1870), the Leipzig Pedagogical Society (1870) and of the Vienna Anthropological Society (1870).
