biography

Gschwentner grew up with two sisters in simple circumstances. After graduating from the Bundesrealgymnasium in Wörgl in 1976 , he completed executive training and the administrative academy in Graz , Innsbruck and Vienna from 1977 to 1981 and worked at the Innsbruck Federal Police Directorate from 1981 to 1989 .

In 1989 he began his work as the head of the Rum market . In 1986 he entered the Kundl municipal council with his own list , and from 1992 to 2002 he was mayor. From 1993 onwards, as chairman of the social democratic association of community representatives, he was also a member of the state party executive committee of the SPÖ Tyrol.

From 1995 to 2004 he was honorary managing director of AFG Kundl (waste heat utilization and district heating supply in the Kundl municipality), a 100% subsidiary of the Kundl municipality.

From 1999 to 2002 he was chairman of the SPÖ district organization Kufstein and member of the Tyrolean state parliament for the areas of budget, law, community, energy and sport.

On May 4, 2002, Gschwentner was elected party chairman of the SPÖ Tirol at the regional party congress in Innsbruck and on July 3, 2002, he was sworn in as deputy governor, responsible for the environment and European transport policy.

After the state election of September 28, 2003, which was very successful for the Tyrolean SPÖ, he took over the environment and European transport policy as well as sporting affairs on October 21, 2003 in the newly formed coalition.

When the Tyrolean provincial government was reshuffled on January 3, 2006, he handed over the environmental and European transport policy departments to Hans Lindenberger and took over the social department.

In 2012 he handed over his functions as deputy governor and state party chairman to Gerhard Reheis .

criticism

Critical voices were raised when Gschwentner was appointed the new director of the non-profit housing company Neue Heimat Tirol after a brief hearing . The Tyrolean political opposition sees this as another case of the favoritism that it has denounced. A preferential purchase of a luxury apartment in 2015 from Neue Heimat Tirol , which he runs, also provoked criticism.
