Georges Guétary

Georges Guétary (born February 8, 1915 in Alexandria , † September 13, 1997 in Mougins ) was an Egyptian-French singer , dancer and actor .

Life

At the age of 22, Guétary, who was born in Egypt, came to France, where he trained in singing, dancing and acting. In 1944 he had his first major success alongside Gilles Grangier in Le cavalier noir .

In the following years he played, sang and danced numerous operetta roles on major stages worldwide. a. in London ( Bless the Bride , 1947 and Latin Quarter , 1949) and Arms and the Girl on New York's Broadway , where he received a Tony Award for his artistic achievement .

However, he achieved international fame through his film appearances in operetta adaptations and the musical An American in Paris at the side of Gene Kelly .

Nevertheless, Guétary did not strive for a film career, but returned to his adopted home France, where he a. a. performed at the Châtelet Theater in Paris and enjoyed success as a chansonnier with titles such as Ciao Ciao Bambino and Rambino .

In 1950 he received French citizenship. Guétary appeared in public for the last time in 1996 to celebrate his 50th anniversary on stage.
