Guðfríður Lilja Grétarsdóttir (born January 10, 1972 ) is an Icelandic politician ( left-green movement ) and chess player .

Life and politics

Guðfríður Lilja Grétarsdóttir studied history and philosophy at Harvard University and the University of Cambridge . From 2009 to the end of 2012 she was a member of the Icelandic parliament Althing for the Southwestern constituency . She chaired the Green Parliamentary Club and chaired the Icelandic delegation to the Assembly of the Arctic Countries. She was also a member of the committees for the environment and for external affairs. On December 31, 2012, she announced her resignation from parliament. Her successor until the general election on April 27, 2013 was Ólafur Þór Gunnarsson .

For the Icelandic women's national team she played at four chess Olympiads : 2000 and 2002 on the top board and 2004 and 2006 on the third board. On the third board, she also played for Iceland at the 2005 European Women's Team Championship. With Taflfélagið Hellir , she took part in the 2003 Women's European Club Cup . Since 2004 she has held the title of International Women's Champion (WIM). She won the Icelandic women's championship eleven times (1985 to 1988 and 1990 to 1993 four times in a row, 1997, 2001 and 2003).
