Gu Changwei

Gu Changwai ( Chinese  顧 長 衛 , Pinyin Gù Chángwèi ; born December 12, 1957 in Xi'an , Shaanxi ) is a Chinese cameraman and film director .

Life

Gu Changwai studied camera at the Beijing Film Academy from 1978 to 1982 . He then worked for the Xi'an Film Studios until 1993 Farewell, my concubine exclusively as a cameraman on the films of his classmates Chen Kaige and Zhang Yimou . For this he was given a nomination for best camera for the first time for one of the most important film awards, the Oscar . In 2005 Gu Changwai made his debut as a film director with Kong Que . The drama was awarded the Grand Jury Prize at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2005 .

Gu Changwai has been married to actress Jiang Wenli since 1993 .
