history

The Novy settlement (Russian for 'new' , meaning 'New Settlement' ) was established in the 1950s in connection with the construction of the Votkinsk Dam. About three kilometers south, closer to the dam, the Wolkowski settlement was built; At first mainly construction workers lived in both of them, after completion in the early 1960s the staff of the hydropower plant and the other facilities on the dam lived. From 1969 Nowy belonged to the village soviet Wolkowski, which had become independent .

In the following years Nowy grew faster than Wolkowski and received the status of an urban-type settlement in 1989; the seat of the administration of the now called Nowowolkowski settlement Soviet was moved to Nowy, and Wolkowski is subordinate to this. As part of the administrative reform, Wolkowski and the railway station settlement Postrojetschnaja between Wolkowski and Nowy were incorporated into Nowy in 2004/2005, which now forms the municipality (gorodskoje posselenije) Novowolkowskoje as the only locality .
