Kes ( Russian and Udmurt Кез ) is a settlement (possjolok) in the Republic of Udmurtia in Russia with 11,080 inhabitants (14 October 2010).
geography
The place is about 120 km as the crow flies north-northeast of the republic capital Izhevsk on the right bank of the Lyp , a right tributary of the Chepza , below the confluence of the Jus .
Kes is the administrative center of the Rajons Kesski and seat three rural communities with the following localities:
- Kesskoye selskoye posselenie: near Kes the village of Doma 1242 km
- Klyuchevskoje selskoje posselenije (area northwest of Kes) with the villages of Klyushevskoye, Matyslud, Kwasser, Kamyshevo, Maly Puschmes, Puschmes, Verkh-Syga and Verkh-Udi as well as the hamlet (potschinok) Paschman
- Sosnovoborskoye selskoye posselenije (area southwest of Kes) with the villages Adjamigurt, Kesdur, Lipowka, Maloje Medlo, Nadezhda, Pikscha, Schernopi, Sosnovy Bor, Stengurt, Syga I, Syga II, Syga III, Chekschur, Wanyalud
history
The place was created in 1897 in connection with the construction of the Perm - Vyatka (now Kirov) - Kotlas railway , which began operations in 1899 and is now part of the main Trans-Siberian railway on the Kirov - Perm section . The station settlement quickly developed into a local center and in 1929 became the administrative seat of a Rajon. From May 1942 to 2008, Kes had urban-type settlement status .

Kes is located at line kilometer 1244 of the Trans-Siberian Railway (from Moscow ), which has been electrified from this section since 1961 . There is a road connection to the neighboring district administration seat of Debyossy , which is almost 30 km to the south, on the Kazan - Izhevsk - Perm branch of the M7 Volga federal trunk road .
