Guardians (Original title: Russian Защитники , transcribed Zashchitniki ) is a Russian action and science fiction - feature film of 2017. The film opened on 26 February 2017 in German cinemas.

During the Cold War , the Soviet Union launched a superhero program under the direction of the secret organization "Patriot". It gives superhuman powers to selected people from different parts of the country. The collapse of the Soviet Union a short time later also meant the end of the troops called “protectors”.

Years later, when the scientist August Kuratov wants to subdue Russia and the Russian military is powerless, four “protectors” are reactivated.
