Guidan Sori is a rural municipality in the department guidan roumdji department in Niger .

geography

Guidan Sori is located in the greater Sudan landscape and borders the neighboring state of Nigeria in the southwest . The neighboring communities in Niger are Guidan Roumdji in the north, Chadakori in the northeast and Tibiri in the south. The municipality is divided into 63 administrative villages, three traditional villages, 98 hamlets and six camps. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village of Guidan Sori.

history

In 1914, in the village of Balarabé, which belongs to Guidan Sori, one of the first customs posts was set up between the then French Niger and the then British Nigeria. The poorly trained and poorly controlled customs officers, who were recruited from the ranks of the tirailleurs sénégalais , were supposed to collect taxes on cross-border trade on behalf of William Ponty , the governor-general of French West Africa .

The village of Toda, which belongs to Guidan Sori, gave its name to the "Toda Affaire" ( affaire Toda ) in 1991. This describes a massacre of Hausa farmers from several villages who allied against a camp of Fulbe cattle herders due to land use conflicts killed more than a hundred people there after setting fire to their homes.

The rural community of Guidan Sori emerged from the canton of Guidan Sori in 2002 as part of a state-wide administrative reform.

At the 2001 census, Guidan Sori had 66,969 inhabitants. At the 2012 census, the population was 93,771. The administrative village of Fissataou in the municipality of Guidan Sori is a traditional center of the Azna .

Economy and Infrastructure

The east of the municipality is in an area where rain-fed agriculture is predominant. The west belongs to the zone of irrigated farming .
