from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Guido I. (Guy I. de Châtillon, attested in 1298, † August 1342 ) was Count of Blois and Dunois , Lord of Avesnes , Trélon , Guise etc. He was the son of Hugo II of Châtillon , Count of Blois and Dunois ( House of Châtillon ), and Beatrix of Flanders ( House of Dampierre ). He is not to be confused with Guy I. de Châtillon, Lord of Châtillon (attested in 1076) or Guy I. de Châtillon , Count of Saint-Pol (X 1226).

He married Marguerite de Valois on October 6, 1310 (* around 1295 - † July 1342), daughter of Count Charles I of Valois ( House of Valois ) and Marguerite of Anjou-Sicily ( House of Anjou ), and sister of the later (1328) French King Philip VI. They had three children:

In 1315 Guido took part in the war of Louis X against Flanders . In addition, he got involved in disputes with his neighbor Burchard VI. , Count of Vendôme . From 1336, the beginning of the Hundred Years War , he stood at the side of his brother-in-law Philip VI. against the English King Edward III.

Guido von Blois was buried in La Guiche Abbey near Blois .
