Guillaume de Marcossey

Guillaume de Marcossey († December 31, 1377 ) was Bishop of Geneva from 1366 to 1377 .

Life

Guillaume came from a noble family of the Faucigny , whose ancestral castle was north of Bregny . He became official of Geneva in 1344 , canon there in 1348 and dean of Sion in 1349 . Innocent VI. appointed him Bishop of Gap in 1362 . In 1366 Urban VI made him . Bishop of Geneva and passed Nicolas de Begnins , who was elected by the cathedral chapter . Under Guillaume, the construction of the Geneva city wall, begun under his predecessor, was completed. After his death in 1377 he was buried in Geneva Cathedral.
