Ghillebert de Lannoy (* 1386 , † 1462 ) was a French nobleman , later a knight , who was involved in several military conflicts during the Hundred Years War at the beginning of the 15th century . He is one of the eyewitnesses of the Battle of Azincourt .

Ghillebert de Lannoy came from the Flemish noble family Lannoy (French: Maison de Lannoy ). His military career began in 1399. He was involved in a French raid on the Isle of Wight . Another raid took place on Falmouth in 1400 . From 1403 to 1408 he was in the service of Jehan Werchin , the Seneschal of Hainault, and accompanied him on a crusade to the east, to a tournament in Valencia and during a campaign against the Moors in Spain. In 1408 and 1412 he served on the campaigns of the Duke of Burgundy. But he was also involved in campaigns in Spain and the Lithuanian Wars of the Teutonic Order . There he was knighted. He was captured by the English during a pilgrimage to St. Patrick . His ransom was paid by the Duke of Burgundy.

Ghillebert de Lannoy was one of the French survivors of the Battle of Azincourt in 1415. He was wounded in the knee and head, but pulled out from among the dead on the battlefield by English troops. He later reported that he had been locked in a hut with ten to twelve prisoners. This was set on fire when Henry V gave the order to kill the French prisoners. The order was given when the Duke of Brabant arrived on the battlefield with a small retinue. His account is essential because otherwise there were only chroniclers' accounts of this incident during the Battle of Azincourt.

Together with his brother Hugues de Lannoy , Ghillebert was a founding member of the Order of the Golden Fleece in 1430 .

For the education of the young Charles the Bold (1433–1477), the son of the Duke of Burgundy, he wrote the Fürstenspiegel Instruction d'un jeune prince pour se bien gouverner envers Dieu et le monde .
