action

The film opens with the historic independence of Bangladesh, after the third Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. Two starving children, Bikram and Bala, are shot by a man named Lateef, who offers the children to work for him and illegal guns to men smuggle. He worries about them until the day an army officer who delivered them pistols pressures Lateef to leave one of the two boys behind to work as a child sex slave or to take Lateef's daughter with him. Bikram overhears this and tells Lateef that he will stay behind to save Bala, his friend. Bala comes back to save Bikram and kills the army officer. The two boys run away after Lateef was killed by the police.

They reach Calcutta by train and earn their living in a small restaurant. Bala quarrels with the owner, who beats him and calls him a refugee. They start looting trains and selling the coal in the market at a lower price. Bala beats the owner of the restaurant and admonishes him not to abuse children. As adults, Bikram and Bala loot large coal trains. In the meantime they kill the famous coal trader Divakar, who calls them refugees and illegally trades in coal. But the hearts of the two men always long for a good life. From gun delivery men to coal bandits, they are changing their illegal business to legal business with the help of Kali Kaka. They build schools and hospitals and are celebrated as heroes by the city. They hire people and provide help for the poor. They have become kind-hearted people, but one day they are targeted by ACP Satyajeet Sarkar. He went to Bangladesh to arrest the two of them for the crimes they committed. ACP Satyajeet Sarkar sees that the two men have changed and warns them to be arrested for the smallest offense. A cabaret dancer, Nandita, enters the life of Bikram and Bala, who instantly fall in love with Nandita. Bikram and Bala agree that Nandita should marry whoever she loves. Nandita calls her to the theater, where Bala gets into an argument with a person who makes derogatory comments about Nandita. Bala kills the man. Bikram asks Bala to run away for now so he can be safe and promises not to meet Nandita until he returns.

Nandita confesses to Bikram that she has fallen in love with him and asks him to come to the Durga Puja because otherwise she will never see him again. Bikram agrees to the meeting. Bala learns about it from his follower Himanshu and returns to Calcutta at Durga Puja. He spots Bikram and Nandita together and shoots Bikram out of anger. But the bullet misses its target and hits Nandita. She is taken to the hospital and survived. Bikram and Bala's friendship is over.

Bala finds out that her entire business is built on Bikram's name. Angrily, he asks Bikram to split the business. Bikram agrees and transfers half of the business to Bala. Bala talks about sharing Nandita between them and the "winner" may marry her. Bikram gets angry and the two start fighting. Bikram wins but Bala spares, as Bala once saved Bikram when they were kids. Bikram warns Bala not to molest Nandita or he will kill him. Bikram and Nandita decide to get married, but she is kidnapped by Bala. Bikram allies with Sarkar against Bala. Nandita feels sorry for Bala because he wants her. He threatens to kill her if she does not leave Bikram. She then lists the properties that Bikram does not have Bala. Bala lets Nandita go because he sees his mistake. It is revealed that Nandita is an undercover police officer who works for Sarkar who helps him separate Bikram and Bala. In the meantime, Bikram learns the true identity of the man Bala actually killed. He lives and is a policeman. Bikram is convinced that the police system destroyed Bikram and Bala's innocence and childhood. Nandita tells Bikram about her true identity. Bikram is shocked and goes crazy. He also blames her for getting into trouble. Bala has fallen into a trap set by his henchman Himanshu. He is the brother of the late coal bandit killed by Bikram and Bala. Himanshu tells Bala about Nandita's real identity and tries to kill Bala. Surprisingly, Bikram shows up and saves his friend. Bala spares Himanshu and does not kill him. Bikram and Bala reunite. They are surrounded by police officers and a chase begins. No policewoman can catch her, but Sarkar and Nandita manage and urge her to give up. Suddenly a train comes by and Bikram and Bala run to catch him. Behind them, Sarkar and Nandita fire bullets. The film ends with a bullet flying towards her and her powerful words that tell the end of the story.
