Gunnar Schupelius (* 1963 in Berlin-Wilmersdorf ) is a German journalist , non-fiction author and columnist for the Berlin newspaper BZ

Life

After studying history , Schupelius graduated from the Axel Springer School of Journalism and worked for the Bild newspaper . In the 1990s he was editor-in-chief of the Berlin radio station Hundert, 6 . From 1999 to 2003 he was the head of news for Welt am Sonntag . From 2003 to 2005 he was the editor-in-chief of Hörzu magazine . Since 2005 he has been the chief columnist of the Berlin tabloid BZ , where he publishes the conservative column Mein Ärger - the just anger of Gunnar Schupelius every day . Between 2010 and 2011 he headed the capital city office of Focus and then returned to the BZ .

Together with his wife Magdalena Schupelius, he wrote various non-fiction books on the history of Berlin and Prussia . The couple has five children.

Arson attacks

Gunnar Schupelius' private vehicles were the target of arson attacks on several occasions. In 2014 his car was set on fire in Berlin-Wilmersdorf and completely destroyed in the process. A short time later, a letter of confession was published on a left-wing extremist scene portal. At the end of 2019 there was another arson attack on a newly acquired SUV from Schupelius, which again resulted in total write-off. A short time later, a letter of confession was published again on the scene portal Indymedia . The arson attack was seen as an attack on the freedom of the press.
