Guo Shengkun

Guo Shengkun ( Chinese  郭 声 琨 , Pinyin Guō Shēngkūn ; born October 1954 in Xingguo County in Jiangxi Province ) is a Chinese politician and has been a member of the 19th Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China since October 2017 . He is the secretary of the Political and Legal Commission of the Chinese Communist Party. He holds a degree in business administration from Beijing University of Science and Technology and a PhD in administrative sciences.

Career

Guo was born in October 1954 in Xingguo County, Jiangxi Province. During the Cultural Revolution he worked in the countryside. In 1974 he joined the Chinese Communist Party . From 1977 to 1979 he studied mining at the Jiangxi Mining Institute. He then worked in the Jiangxi Province Metallurgy Department in various positions until he finally became party secretary and director of that institution. From 1985 he worked for various state-owned companies in the non-ferrous and aluminum industries and held the posts of party secretary, deputy director of the Aluminum Corporation of China (Chinalco) and finally became the company's chairman. Under his leadership, Chinalco's subsidiary, Aluminum Corporation of China Limited (Chalco), was listed on the New York and Hong Kong stock exchanges. From 2003 to 2007, he studied business administration at Beijing University of Science and Technology and received a doctorate in administrative science. He is a professor of engineering.

He switched to politics in 2004 and became party secretary from November 2007 and chairman of the People's Congress of the Zhuang Autonomous Region of Guangxi Province from 2013 . In December 2012 he was appointed Minister of the Ministry of Public Security . Its designation was viewed critically within China because it lacks a legal background. He was a member of the 16th and 17th Central Committees . In October 2017, he became a member of the 19th Politburo of the Communist Party of China and Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China. He is responsible for prosecution at the national level and is responsible for the security apparatus and the intelligence service.
