Bengt Johan Gustaf Brandelius (born October 22, 1833 in Fredsberg , Västergötland , Sweden ; † November 24, 1884 in Skövde , Västergötland) was a Swedish landscape and genre painter from the Düsseldorf School .

Life

Brandelius, son of the clergyman Jan Christian Brandelius and his wife, the painter Maria Renberg (1810-1887), was a member of the Swedish infantry from April 18, 1854 to May 9, 1884. In the course of his military career, he rose to the rank of captain (kapten) on September 27, 1878 as the head of a company .

He received an academic art education at the Stockholm Art Academy . From 1857 to 1859 he lived in Düsseldorf , where he took private lessons from the Swedish genre painter Carl d'Unker . He then continued his studies in Paris . In 1868 he became a member of the Swedish Academy. In 1874 he was awarded the title of Royal Court Painter .
