Gustaf Kolthoff

Gustaf Isak Kolthoff (born December 14, 1845 in the parish of Sandhem, Västergötland , † October 25, 1913 in Stockholm or Börje församling in Uppsala län ) was a Swedish ornithologist and explorer.

Life

Kolthoff was the son of Johan Henrik Kolthoff and his wife Sara Gustafva (née Friberger). In 1878 he became a curator at the Zoological Museum at Uppsala University . In 1893, together with Bruno Liljefors and Carl Bovallius (1844–1907), he founded the Biological Museum in the Stockholm district of Djurgården . Kolthoff was also a leader or participant in various research trips such as 1872 to Iceland and the Faroe Islands , 1883 with Adolf Erik Nordenskiöld to Greenland , 1887 to the Norwegian Arctic Coast and in 1898 under Alfred Gabriel Nathorst to Spitzbergen . In 1900 he led his own zoological expedition to Spitzbergen and northeastern Greenland.

Kolthoff received an honorary doctorate from Uppsala University on the occasion of the Linné Celebration in 1907 .

He was married to Beata Charlotte Lovisa (née Lind af Hageby, 1833-1916) since October 4, 1870. He found his final resting place on the south wall of the Börje temple.
