In 1938 the Bremer Landesbank and the Staatliche Kreditanstalt Oldenburg merged from 1883 (since 1983 Bremer Landesbank Kreditanstalt Oldenburg - Girozentrale ). Salander - still a member of the government - lost his position at the state main treasury and stayed with the bank. During the Second World War he served as a soldier from 1939 to 1940. After the war, for political reasons, he could no longer take on the position of director of the Bremer Landesbank.
