Career

Enrique Aguilar comes from San Luis Potosí (city) . There he started wrestling at the age of 12 in 1981. He was trained by Leonid Kolesnik and focused on the Greco-Roman style. At a height of 1.57 meters, he was wrestling in the paper weight, the lightest weight class, which at its time had its weight limit of 48 kg.

Enrique Aguilar made his first start in an international championship at the Central American & Caribbean Championships in Mexico City . He came there in paper weight behind Wilber Sánchez from Cuba, Joel Manuel Medina from Venezuela and Mynor Ramírez from Guatemala in 4th place. In 1992 he finished 3rd at the Pan American Championships behind Wilber Sánchez and Mynor Ramírez and won his first medal at an international championship.

In 1993 he was even runner-up at the Pan American paper weight championships. Only Wilber Sánchez , who dominated the wrestling scene in America at the time in his weight class, placed in front of him. Enrique Aguilar also took second place at the Central American & Caribbean Championships in 1993 in Ponce and at the 195 Pan American Games in Mar del Plata . In Ponce, only Wilber Sánchez was ahead of him and in Mar del Plata the American Mujaahid Maynard won . Maynard and Enrique Aguilar managed the feat to place themselves in front of the two-time world champion Wilber Sánchez.

1995 Enrique Aguilar started for the first time at a world championship. In Prague , however, he had to realize that he was still a bit removed from the absolute top of the world. There he lost both fights that he had to contest and ended up in 19th place.

1996 he succeeded in Cali for the Olympic Games in Atlanta to qualify. In Atlanta, however, he fared like the 1995 World Cup, because he lost there against Bayram Özdemir from Turkey (0:11 tech. Points) and against Hiroshi Kado , Japan (0:10 tech . Points), with which he was eliminated and the 17th place.

Then he ended his international wrestling career. Today (2010) he is the director of the State Normal School in San Luis Potosí and is heavily involved in the training of young wrestlers.
