Gustav Eduard Seydel

Gustav Eduard Seydel , also Eduard Seydel (born March 18, 1822 in Luxembourg , Grand Duchy of Luxembourg ; † September 30, 1881 in Dresden , Kingdom of Saxony ), was a German-Luxembourg genre painter from the Düsseldorf School .

Life

Seydel first studied at the Antwerp Academy . In 1843 he went to Düsseldorf , where he was taught by Karl Ferdinand Sohn and Rudolf Wiegmann at the Royal Prussian Art Academy until 1846 . Then he settled in Dresden. In 1847 he made his debut at the Dresden academic art exhibition. Seydel mainly painted genre motifs, later also landscapes . A self-portrait of him was acquired by the Königliche Gemäldegalerie in Dresden at the end of 1908 or beginning of 1909 or entered the collection as a bequest from Jean Libert Oury (1833-1908).
