Gustav Geissler (also Gustav Geißler , born January 12, 1871 in Nuremberg , † after 1895) was a German dentist and paleontologist .

Geissler studied with Max Blanckenhorn , Konrad Oebbeke and Emil Selenka at the University in Erlangen , where he in 1895 at the Faculty for Dr. phil. received his doctorate .

Then Geissler worked as a dentist.

Gustav Geissler is best known for his 1895 published paper on dinosaur finds from the shell of Bayreuth . His first paleontological descriptions of Triassic fin lizards that were made there are no longer considered valid today. The first described by him Nothosaurus baruthicus Geissler , 1895, was determined in 1996 by Olivier Rieppel and Rupert Wild as the younger synonym of Nothosaurus giganteus Münster , 1834.

Nothosaurus strunzi Geissler , 1895, is currently synonymous with Pistosaurus longaevus MEYER , 1839.
