Konrad Oebbeke

Konrad Oebbeke , also Oebbecke, (born November 2, 1853 in Hildesheim , † February 1, 1932 in Munich ) was a German mineralogist and geologist . He was a professor at the University of Erlangen and the Technical University of Munich .

Oebbeke studied in Heidelberg and Erlangen. During his studies he became a member of the Germania Erlangen fraternity in 1874 and of the Allemannia Heidelberg fraternity in 1877 . He received his doctorate in 1877 in Würzburg ("A contribution to the knowledge of paleopicrit and its transformation products"). He then worked as an assistant at the Bavarian Geological Survey. In 1881 he completed his habilitation in Munich (contributions to the petrography of the Philippines and the Palau Islands). In 1882 he became a private lecturer for mineralogy in Munich and in 1887 professor for mineralogy in Erlangen. In 1888 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina . In 1895 he became a professor at the TH Munich. In 1927 he retired.

He published on mineral deposits and minerals as well as natural resources in Bavaria, especially those of economic importance. He drew attention to the mineral site of Epprechtstein in the granite of the Fichtelgebirge . Oebbeke was in charge of the 12th to 16th editions of the tables for determining minerals by Franz von Kobell and the 6th and 7th editions of the textbook of mineralogy by Kobell (with Ernst Weinschenk ).
