The Gustav Heinemann Bildungsstätte is an adult education institution of the non-profit society for politics and education Schleswig-Holstein am Kellersee in Bad Malente-Gremsmühlen .

history

In 1967 the "Society for Politics and Education Schleswig-Holstein eV" was founded in Kiel as a sponsoring association for a new chapter of social-democratic political education work . The first members come from the SPD , whose Schleswig-Holstein regional association is the initiator of the establishment. The motivation was the rapid rise of the NPD and the confrontation with the Cold War and the policy of détente . In 1968 the new association acquired the "Haus Seehof" outside of Malente on the Kellersee. The state executive of the SPD had given a loan of 500,000 DM, which was repaid in the following years. The then treasurer and mayor of Eckernförde Kurt Schulz played a decisive role . Even Guenther Jansen and his wife Sabine have been heavily involved for the training center. In 1970 the house was able to hold 52 seminars with over 1200 participants. In 1972 the educational facility was expanded. Carlo Schmid appeared at the topping-out ceremony . The later namesake of the educational institution, Federal President Gustav Heinemann , came to the inauguration in 1973 . Even Willy Brandt visited twice during the period of his chancellorship this house. The focus of the first program was: economic policy, rule and power in state and society, Germany and Eastern policy, international trouble spots, peace research , basic questions of socialism . This program remained a guideline, albeit in a different formulation, in the years to come. Even if the educational establishment was founded out of the SPD, it increasingly began to only become party-affiliated. Since 1969 almost 3000 seminars with tens of thousands of visitors have taken place in Malente. In 1981 a fee was charged for participants, before that, accommodation and meals were usually free for publicly funded seminars. There was still a daily book allowance of 5 DM for union members. In 1983 the educational establishment was named after Gustav Heinemann. Only a little later, the board of the sponsoring association took the initiative for a history project. In addition to historical seminars, lectures and events, the work of the “Advisory Board for History” focuses on the publication of the yearbook “Democratic History”. The 30th yearbook was published in 2019.

Furnishing and equipment

The educational institution organizes around 80 seminars a year on political , historical and cultural further education , which, in addition to providing knowledge, also convey a democratic culture of learning and communication. The offers of the educational establishment are aimed in particular at employees who can receive educational leave for the majority of the seminars in Malente .

Up to 61 seminar guests can be accommodated in double and single rooms in the educational facility. Four conference rooms for 15 to 60 people are available. For leisure, there is a TV room in the house, a pub for socializing in the evening, a sauna, billiards room and - of course - a library.

In 2009 the large seminar room was named after Jochen Steffen , another after Willi Piecyk and the library after Rosa Wallbaum.

The Gustav Heinemann Bildungsstätte is funded by the Schleswig-Holstein Ministry of Education and the Federal Agency for Civic Education .
