Gustav Hermann Zeller (also von Zeller; born January 22, 1812 in Kleinbottwar ; † January 21, 1884 in Stuttgart ) was a Württemberg civil servant and naturalist .

Life

Gustav Hermann Zeller was the son of Johann Heinrich Zeller (1772-1837) in Kleinbottwar. After attending the Latin school in Backnang, he studied camera science in Tübingen. From 1838 to 1842 he was senior actuary in Nürtingen and from 1842 to 1846 assessor of the consistory and the study council. In 1846 he moved to the finance department, where he held various council positions at the regional finance chamber, the tax committee, the railway commission and the statistical office. In 1873 he was appointed director of the cadastral commission , and from 1882 on he was named president of the same. Zeller was a member of the Second Chamber of the Württemberg State Estates : from 1848 to 1849 and for the first constitution- revising state assembly in 1849 for Herrenberg and, after August Ludwig Reyscher resigned from office in 1863 , from 1863 to 1868 for Stuttgart .

Zeller was a naturalist for private enjoyment. He helped Georg von Martens with microscopic examinations when his eyesight deteriorated in old age. In honor of this circumstance, Georg von Martens son, Eduard von Martens , named the algae genus Zellera after him in 1866 . He worked on the algae for the Second German North Polar Expedition in 1869/70 .

His brother was the theologian and philosopher Eduard Zeller . Zeller was married twice: in his first marriage since September 11, 1838 with Louise Pauline Fischer and in his second marriage since June 14, 1870 with Marie Kraz.
