Members of the Württemberg estates from 1849 to 1851

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This list includes the members of the three extraordinary state assemblies for the revision of the constitution of the Kingdom of Württemberg passed in 1819 and for the discussion of a new constitution. These state assemblies took place in 1849 and 1850 . The 16th extraordinary state parliament met from December 1 to 22, 1849 as the first state assembly to review the constitution , the 17th extraordinary state parliament from March 15 to July 3, 1850 as the second state assembly advising the constitution, and the 18th extraordinary state parliament from October 4 until November 6, 1850 as the third state assembly advising the constitution . The state assemblies consisted of only one chamber, the previous so-called Second Chamber . These only included the elected representatives of the capital and the 63 higher offices. Neither the six other “good cities” nor the 23 privileged members of the Second Chamber were represented. The First Chamber did not meet during these state assemblies. The state assemblies were influenced by the subsequent events that the March Revolution of 1848 had in the course of 1849. On June 18, 1849, the rump parliament in Stuttgart was dissolved by the Württemberg military action and on July 23, 1849 the armies of the German Confederation, especially Prussia, militarily overthrew the revolution in the neighboring state of Baden . For the year 1851 the leading minister Joseph von Linden decreed a binding return to the Württemberg constitution of 1819, so that the state assemblies remained ineffective as a result.
