Life
Gustav Hochstetter ( Professor Dr. of Literature at the University of Brussels ) lived in Pieskow until 1942 . Together with Alexander Moszkowski , he was editor of the Lustige Blätter in Berlin from 1903 to 1923 and wrote humorous columns and verses that often appeared in illustrated versions (including by Walter Trier ) and in large numbers. He was in correspondence with Wilhelm Busch . In 1901 Arnold Schönberg set his poem “Manung” to music for the Überbrettl .
Because of his Jewish origins, he was deported to the Theresienstadt concentration camp in 1942, where he died on July 26, 1944.
reception
His short story wandering in silence , which appeared in the Prager Tagblatt in 1913, is downright prophetic and describes the excesses of modern mobile telephony . On medical advice, a company boss is supposed to recharge his batteries by walking in silence, when in the seclusion of the mountains he suddenly hears something from his backpack - his wife calls him: “Yes, yes, Ludwig, you're amazed? That thing cost a lot of money. A brand new invention: the miniature portable cordless phone. "
