Gustav Kautz

Gustav Kautz (born August 20, 1826 in Rhaunen ; † December 1, 1897 in Moers ) was a German lawyer in local government.

Life

After attending high school in Emmerich Gustav Kautz studied at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University Bonn Law . In 1849 he became a member of the Corps Rhenania Bonn . After completing his studies, he became a regional court trainee. In 1862 he became mayor of Rheinböllen . In 1864 Kautz was appointed mayor of Moers . He held the office until his death in 1897.

Kautz's particular merit was the traffic connection between the city of Moers and the industrial metropolis of Duisburg , which took place via the railway line to Homberg and the Ruhrort – Homberg trajectory that was put into operation by the Märkische Eisenbahngesellschaft in 1883 . His tenure also included the construction of gas-powered street lighting in 1873, the commissioning of the railway line to Krefeld by the Rheinische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft in 1882, the establishment of the teachers' college and the takeover of the gas works from Rheinische Energie AG by the city of Moers in 1894 . The construction of the first Catholic church in Moers after the Reformation also took place during his mayorship, as did the transfer of the Adolfinum grammar school to state sponsorship.

Awards

Kautz was the bearer of a Prussian order of peace. Kautzstrasse in Moers was named after him.
