Gustav Nebe

Johannes Friedrich Ferdinand Gustav Nebe (born September 21, 1835 in Roßleben , Province of Saxony , † November 6, 1919 in Eisenach ) was a Protestant theologian and, as general superintendent, the spiritual director of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia in Münster .

Life

As the son of the Roßleben superintendent Johann Friedrich Nebe and Franziska Wilhelmi, Gustav Nebe attended the monastery school in his hometown, where he passed the Abitur at Easter 1854. This was followed by theology studies at the universities of Halle (Saale) , Heidelberg and Tübingen .

In Halle Nebe passed the first theological exam in autumn 1857 and the second theological exam in Magdeburg in autumn 1859, and on January 15, 1862 he was ordained to the ministry in Magdeburg .

In 1862 Nebe took over the parish priesthood in Uichteritz (Province of Saxony) and in 1868 became senior pastor and superintendent in Weißenfels . In 1874 he moved to Halberstadt , where he was appointed senior cathedral preacher and superintendent.

In 1883, Gustav Nebe was appointed general superintendent and spiritual director of the ecclesiastical province of Westphalia , succeeding Julius Wiesmann . He held this position as church leader until he retired on October 31, 1905. His successor was Wilhelm Zoellner .

Nebe had been married to Luise Anna Hempel, the widow of District Judge Baensch in Weißenfels, since May 19, 1874.

Honors

On January 12, 1887, the Evangelical Theological Faculty of the University of Bonn awarded Gustav Nebe an honorary doctorate . He also received u. a. the Order of the Red Eagle in several forms, most recently in 1901 the 2nd class with star and oak leaves, and in 1905 the Prussian Royal Crown Order 1st class.
