Friedrich Gustav Alexander Stier (born February 7, 1807 in Berlin ; † November 18, 1880 ibid.) Was a German architect , publicist and university professor .

Life

Gustav Stier was a cousin of the architect Wilhelm Stier . He completed his studies at the Berlin Bauakademie from 1822 to 1824 with a surveyor's examination and then worked practically with Friedrich Schramm . This was followed by a site manager examination (probably 1828). He became a member of the architects' association and worked from 1828 to 1837 as a draftsman and employee for Karl Friedrich Schinkel . In February 1836 he passed the master builder examination. From 1839 to 1842 he taught freehand drawing at the trade institute . From 1842 to 1864 he was a lecturer at the Bauakademie with the subjects of freehand drawing , architectural drawing and the history of architecture , from 1843 as a professor . In 1852 he was appointed building officer. In 1861 he retired.
