Life

Gustav von Rohden, son of the mission inspector Georg Ludwig von Rohden (1815–1889) and his wife Luise née Wachsmuth, met his sister Agnes Dörpfeld, who later became his wife, through his school friend Wilhelm Dörpfeld . Agnes spent a few years in Düsseldorf on Goltsteinstrasse, in her aunts boarding school. They got to know each other better at Wilhelm Dörpfeld's wedding, and while Gustav von Rohden served as pastor in Helsingfors for the German congregation , they exchanged letters. In 1883 they got engaged in Gerresheim , where Agnes's father, Friedrich Wilhelm Dörpfeld, lived as rector. On January 4, 1884, the wedding ceremony and wedding took place in Gerresheim and Barmen . After the honeymoon, which led via Saxony to Petersburg, they settled down together in Helsingfors. During this time the couple had various contacts, the rectory in Helsingfors was open to anyone who needed help. By the autumn of 1894 5 children were born, Agnes, Friedrich von Rohden , Hedwig, Karl and Harald.

In 1894 Gustav von Rohden returned to Germany with his family as the owner of a boys' boarding school in Bielefeld . They had overwhelmed themselves with the operation of the same. As early as the end of 1895 he accepted a job as a prison chaplain in Dortmund , and again in autumn 1896 to move to the large penal institution in Werden an der Ruhr . At Easter 1898 he moved to Düsseldorf, which his wife Agnes von Rohden took very seriously. Back in Germany, the family grew again by two children. In 1907 Agnes von Rohden died in Derendorf . Von Rohden was appointed to Berlin as consistorial councilor in 1908 , but in 1912 he moved to Spören near Bitterfeld as pastor . From 1919 until his retirement in 1923 he was head of the women's school of the Inner Mission in Berlin. After the death of his wife, Gustav von Rohden wrote several books. He turned to the issue of women's rights, which his wife had dealt with in previous years.

His brothers were Hermann von Rohden and Paul von Rohden .
