Gusztáv Frigyes Keleti
Gusztáv Frigyes Keleti (born December 13, 1834 in Pressburg , † September 2, 1902 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian painter and art critic .
Life
Keleti initially studied law at the Universities of Pest and Vienna and then became an educator in the house of the Hungarian Minister of Education József Eötvös , whose direction of thought had a lasting influence on his development.
Following his inclination, Keleti then turned to the artistic career. During a stay of several years at the Art Academy in Munich , under the influence of Johann Fischbach , Friedrich Voltz and Eduard Schleich, he found his own ways, which led him to the lyrical-heroic direction in the field of landscape painting.
At the same time he tried to establish his art conceptions, which he had expanded through repeated trips, also in the literary field in Hungary and to initiate a more objective and understanding art criticism there.
In 1871 the Royal Hungarian State Drawing School and Drawing Teacher Training Institute was established under his leadership, and in 1880 the Royal School of Applied Arts, of which Keleti was the director. From 1874 he was also a member of the Hungarian Academy.
