The Good Staltach in Iffeldorf is a historic estate with former peat factory , brewery and agricultural material , which since its acquisition in 1861 by Josef Anton Ritter von Maffei and by continuing his heir Hugo von Maffei of the entire region south of Lake Starnberg had a lasting influence.

The estate is located south of Munich in Upper Bavaria on the Kochelseebahn .

history

In 1856, the Munich businessman, Ministerialrat Wilhelm von Weber, bought the first two Staltacher Höfe, and in 1858 also the third, to use them for peat extraction. Based on the poor financial situation of the estate, the son of an Italian, Joseph Anton von Maffei , who lived in Munich, bought the Staltach estate for 150,000 guilders in 1861 to use the peat for his locomotive works in Munich. Through barter deals and additional purchases worth around 350,000 guilders, he expanded the Staltach property to almost 1,000 hectares and, for the time, ran considerable livestock with a large court. Until his death in 1870 he used the country house he had built in Gut Staltach as summer quarters and then bequeathed the entire property to his nephew Hugo von Maffei .

The successor ruling patriarchally increased the family fortune between 1870 and 1890 through another 53 purchases and barter deals. The Staltacher Brewery was built from 1871 to 1874, and its production amounted to around 6,000 bushels per year. In 1877 he opened his own hospital . In contrast to his father, he expanded agriculture in Gut Staltach and managed forests and meadows. In 1902 Hugo made Staltach a Fideikommissgut . However, this was in vain after his death in 1921, as this possibility of protecting large estates was abolished with the Weimar Constitution . After Hugo von Maffei's death, his 60-year-old son Alfons only managed the estate for a short period until his death in 1926. Among other things, the Oberlauterbacher Höfe inherited Alfons' aunt, Hugo's sister, Laura, married from Malaisé. The following years brought great trouble to the family because of waste and poor economics. Large parts of the Staltach property had to be sold, but the core substance could be retained with some difficulties. The Staltacher brewery was sold to the Paulaner brewery in 1927 because of excessive competitive pressure . Around the same time the peat factory was sold to Maschinenbau-Druck AG. In 1961 the operation in Gut Staltach was finally given up and in 1972 the last estate of the Maffei's descendants in Obereurach also closed . World icon
