History and architecture

Zettemin manor general view

The village of Zettemin was mentioned in a document in 1261, when the estate was laid out in the eastern area, it developed into an estate village.

At first there was a strong peasantry in the village; In connection with the construction of the manor house, the arable land was reorganized. The Zetteminer farm positions were "laid", i. H. came into the possession of the large landowner and the farmers became day laborers on the estate. The day laborer's cottages along the village street are a reminder of this time.

Around the middle of the 18th century, the symmetrical complex was built in the late Baroque style as a two-story, seven-axis central building made of brick . The central projection is gabled, the house is covered with a hipped roof, the single-storey side wings are connected in a quarter circle. The semicircular manor structure defines the village image.

The estate belonged to the Dargun monastery , the von Maltzahn families and, from 1852, von Heyden-Linden. The Counts of Schwerin bought it in the 19th century. The Counts of Schwerin were expropriated in 1945 after the end of the Second World War . During this time, fundamental changes were made to the complex in order to be able to use it as a day nursery and for residential purposes. Today the facility is used for residential purposes when it is partially vacant.
