Guy Paquinet
Guy Paquinet (* 13. October 1903 in Tours ; † 5. January 1981 sur le in La Selle Bied, Loiret ) was a French jazz - trombonist and bandleader.
Guy Paquinet, often compared to Tommy Dorsey , was one of the leading trombonists in pre-war French jazz. After studying at the Paris Conservatory, he began working as a professional musician in 1925. During these years he played in the city's dance halls, such as Paradis , the Palais Pompeien and the Chateau and Caveau Caucasiens. In 1926 he played with André Ekyan and Gaston Lapeyronie in the Don Parker Orchestra, which was a dance band in the Lido until 1930 . Around 1926/27 he worked in the orchestra of Fred Mele, which had an engagement at the Moulin Rouge , with which Paquinet's first recordings for Pathé were made. In the early 1930s he played with Grégor et ses Grégoriens , who u. a. performed in the Olympia .
In 1935 he played with Michel Warlop and also took part in the recordings of the Warlop Orchestra with Coleman Hawkins and Django Reinhardt . Under the band name Patrick et son Jazz , Paquinet directed and arranged the session of March 3, 1935 ( "From You" ) with Reinhardt and other musicians such as Alix Combelle , Noël Chiboust , André Ekyan and Joseph Reinhardt .
In 1937 he was a member of Ray Ventura's orchestra ; In 1940 he played - together with his 13-year-old son André - for Raymond Legrand, and was involved in recordings of Alix Combelle for Pathé and Django Reinhardt ( "Daphne" ). In 1941 he performed with Léo Chauliac and Michel Warlop at the Salle Gaveau . During this time he had an engagement with his own orchestra in the Villa d'Este as Guy Paquinet, son trombone et son orchester , with whom he also appeared in the Salle Pleyel . In September 1941 he performed at the Grand Festival Swing . From 1945 to 1947 he played again with Ray Ventura. In 1947 he took part in a record session by Django Reinhardt ( "Minor Blues" ) with the house band of Bœuf sur le toit . In February 1953 he recorded one last time with Reinhardt ( " Fine and Dandy " ). In the course of his career, Paquinet also played with Hubert Rostaing and Philippe Brun ( "Bouncin 'Around" , 1938 for Swing ).
