Gwen Bristow

Gwen Bristow (born September 16, 1903 in Marion , South Carolina , † August 17, 1980 in New Orleans , Louisiana ) was an American writer and journalist.

Life

Gwen Bristow's father was a pastor. Bristow attended the public school for journalism and began writing for the local newspaper as a student. After graduating from Columbia University , she worked as a journalist, reporter and editor for several literary magazines. She lived in Beverly Hills with her husband . She later moved to New Orleans and reported for The Times-Picayune newspaper .

Her husband, the screenwriter Bruce Manning , inspired her to write. Bristow's first novel was published in 1929. Her work Californian Symphony , composed in 1950 , became an international bestseller and was made into a film under the direction of Joseph Kane four years after its publication . The three volumes Deep South , The Noble Road and On the Shore of Fame are also known as the "Lousiana Trilogy". For her complete work, Gwen Bristow was inducted into the Alabama Women's Hall of Fame in 1989 .
