György Gömöri

György Gömöri , also George Gömöri or George Gomori , (born July 16, 1904 in Budapest , † March 1, 1957 in Palo Alto ) was a Hungarian-American physician who was best known for his work on histochemistry . Among other things, he developed the Gömöri trichrome stain named after him and the Gömöri methenamine silver stain .

Gömöri studied medicine at the Péter Pázmány University , today's Semmelweis University , until 1928 . From 1928 to 1932 he worked as a pathologist and then as a surgeon. In 1938 he went to the United States. After a brief stint in a private hospital, he went to the University of Chicago as a pathologist that same year . In 1943 he received the Ph.D. and in 1949 became professor of internal medicine . In 1950 he was instrumental in founding the Histochemistry Society . In 1956 Gömöri went to the Palo Alto Medical Center in California, where he worked until the end of his life.
