Gyanu Raja Shrestha (born July 7, 1960 or January 20, 1968 ) is a retired Nepalese football referee .

Career

Shrestha had been a FIFA referee since 1993 to direct international football matches. Before that, at the first women's soccer World Cup in November 1991, the Nepalese headed the group matches between Japan and Sweden (0: 8), the highest-scoring game in the entire tournament, and China against New Zealand (4: 1). He was also used in a semi-final as a linesman to support the game director Salvador Imperatore Marcone . In the following years, Shrestha was used, among other things, in games qualifying for the soccer world championships in 1998 and 2002 as a referee, headed games of the AFC Cup and in September 2006 a preliminary round game at the U-17 soccer Asian championship . In 2008 he worked as a referee trainer. In December 2009, Shrestha was used as an international referee at the South Asian Football Championship .

It is possible that the referee is identical to the football player of the same name, Gyanu Raja Shrestha, who took part in the 1986 Asian Games with the Nepalese national team .
