history

The Achern grammar school was founded in 1877 as a higher middle school. In 1905 it was expanded into a secondary school and relocated to a new building, and in 1921 it was elevated to a secondary school . In 1976 the move into the current building took place; The Robert Schuman Realschule is located in the previous building, built in 1905. The older part of the building is used as a residential building. Two extensions to the current building followed in 1997 and 2002. In 2010 a new building was completed which also houses a cafeteria and creative rooms.

Surname

Since no consensus could be reached on any of the previous proposals to name the school after a person, the neutral name Gymnasium Achern was retained for the time being. In the course of history, however, possible names have been discussed again and again.

Educational offer

In addition to the traditional natural science and modern language, the Achern grammar school has a special focus on the art train. The school has what is known as a student academy for art , where art projects are carried out for particularly talented students from all over South Baden . The offer complements the neighboring home school Lender , another grammar school in the Achern region , which focuses on ancient languages and music.

It was also one of the first schools to test the eight-year high school as a school trial before it was introduced across the board in Baden-Württemberg. In addition to vocational and academic orientation at grammar schools (BoGy) in the 9th grade, the school also runs the Compassion social internship program (in the 10th grade).

Furnishing

Due to the focus on art education, the Achern grammar school has special rooms for this subject area, for example for stone processing. It also has expanded sports facilities, including two beach volleyball fields and a beach soccer field . Each classroom is equipped with a personal computer , video projector and overhead projector . There is also a station for raising storks on the school premises .
