The Kirchheim grammar school is a grammar school in the eastern district of Munich .
history
The school was founded in 1982 as a result of the rapid population increase in the east of Munich. For the first two years, in which about 300 students were taught, the grammar school was still housed in the nearby primary and secondary school. The new school building could be moved into in September 1984 at the beginning of the new school year. It was planned by the architects Krebs, based on the pre-Alpine style. However, there was criticism of various shortcomings. The stairs in the auditorium had to be closed during peak hours because there was a risk that students could fall over the railing. The three-part gym was only opened a few years later. In 1987, a new language branch was introduced with French as the first foreign language. Due to the steadily increasing number of pupils, the building has been expanded several times over the years, which has enabled all-day care for around 30 children since 2006.

The Kirchheim grammar school is a scientific, technological and linguistic grammar school to which a bilingual course with English / history is connected from grade 7. The school regularly offers around 15 different elective courses in the fields of computer science / technology , foreign languages , music , theater , film , sports , Spanish , mediation , youth research , tutors and first aid . Since 1993 the grammar school has been accompanying various school experiments. Since 2005 it has been a founding member school in the “Brain Research and School” network. At the moment, almost 1,300 students in 40 classes are taught by over 100 teachers (as of 2010).
Partner schools
The grammar school has contacts with schools in France ( Marmande and earlier the neighboring Tonneins, Grenoble , Paris ), in the Republic of Ireland near Dublin , in the United Kingdom ( Banbridge in Northern Ireland ) and in the USA (Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis ). Contacts with a school in Gomel , Belarus , whose students attend the school every year, have been a firm tradition since 1993.
