The state high school Wertingen is located in the Bavarian town of Wertingen and is attended by around 890 students. In 1970 the Bavarian Ministry of Culture approved an establishment. The school is now the largest grammar school in the Dillingen district .

history

The Polish professor Alexander Skotnicki reports on Oskar Schindler

On October 26, 1965, the then Wertingen district council applied for the establishment of a mathematical and scientific high school, which was approved on March 18, 1970. School operations began in October of the same year with 78 pupils. Five full-time and eight part-time teachers were employed. The last remaining district in Bavaria - Wertingen was an independent district until the regional reform - had its own grammar school. The first headmaster was Werner Rehle, who coined the concept of a “humane school” and developed into one of the school's guiding principles over the decades.

In 1972 it was expanded to include a new language branch with English , French and Spanish . The school association was founded in 1979 and re-established in 1991.

Right from the start, it was important for everyone involved to network the school with the world around it. In the years that followed, the school offered exchanges with a school in Fère-en-Tardenois , France (1979), and Texas City High School (1984) and Highland Park High School Dallas (1985) in the United States .

In 1997 the dance and gymnastics group won the Bavarian championship. In 1999 an independent branch “ European Gymnasium ” was set up as part of a school trial. In the 2003 school year, the high school celebrated its 1,500th high school graduate. In the school year 2003/4 the grammar school took part in the school experiment "Media integration in mathematics lessons ".

A long phase of redesigning the house began under the later headmaster Peter Schwertschlager. Over a period of almost a decade, the parts of the building were gradually refurbished. The new building in the south-east wing of the school has housed the chemistry department, the rooms for all-day care and the new cafeteria since 2006. For the first time a break hall, the physics and biology wings and the administration area were built.

2008 was the school pilot school in the district of Dillingen for the project Child and Youth Protection on the Internet of Time for Kids Foundation . Since 2009 the school has been participating in the pilot project “M3 - Media Integration in Mathematics Lessons ”, in which a CAS- enabled pocket calculator (such as the Casio ClassPad 300 ) is included in the lessons as well as in exams.

The grammar school has been fundamentally renovated and modernized since autumn 2010. The first renovation work was completed in November 2014. With around 15 million euros, the client, the district of Dillingen, was able to meet the budget. Subsidies from the Free State, the federal government and the district made the financial burden more bearable.

Awards

Since 2009 the school has had the official name " School without Racism - School with Courage ".

With the school newspaper Echo, the school has one of the most awarded school newspapers in Germany. She has been the Bavarian winner several times and took part in numerous federal decisions.

In 2011 it was recognized as one of 15 grammar schools by the Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Culture as a reference school for media education and in the same year as a MINT future- friendly school because the school participates in the nationwide SINUS project to improve the quality of science teaching and has laptop classes has introduced, uses computer algebra systems in the upper level and trains and tests for the European computer driving license.

With the German teacher price and Teacher of the Year 2012 was Christoph Werth awarded by the gymnasium wertingen.
