The grammar school in den Pfarrwiesen (short: GiPS) is a grammar school in the city of Sindelfingen in the German state of Baden-Wuerttemberg . It owes its name to the Pfarrwiesen district.

History and profile

Founded in the 1960s, the school opened in 1965, making it the second grammar school in Sindelfingen. Originally, the Pfarrwiesengymnasium only offered the classic high school branches (natural science and modern language courses). In the 1970s, however, an emphasis began to be placed on the French language . Today, high school students can choose French as their first foreign language, as an alternative to English. For those students who have chosen French as their first foreign language, bilingual classes are offered in French, including geography and history. Spanish is offered as a third foreign language; an alternative is a scientific branch. The first headmaster of the school was Heinz Hummel until 1988; he was followed by Karl Weiß from 1988 to 2005. From 2004 to 2019 Bodo Philipsen headed the grammar school in the Pfarrwiesen. His successor Ulrich Mayer has been in office since 2019.

particularities

A special offer of the grammar school in the Pfarrwiesen is the possibility of attaining the French Baccalauréat in addition to the Abitur . It is one of eleven schools in Baden-Württemberg to offer the Franco-German Abibac . The grammar school sees itself today as a European school to promote the European idea . There are partner schools in France ( Strasbourg and Saint-Étienne ), Spain, Italy and Great Britain. Well-known high school students were the director Roland Emmerich , who attended the school until 1976, Richard Pitterle , member of the German Bundestag from 2009 to 2017, and the theologian Michael Fieger (both graduated from high school in 1980). Since 2014 the grammar school in the Pfarrwiesen has been certified as a “courage school” of the project School without Racism - School with Courage . The SPD politician Bilkay Öney acts as the school sponsor .
