Christoph Oertel
Christoph Oertel (born June 13, 1960 in Hamm - Bockum-Hövel ) is a German film composer , sound designer and sound engineer .
biography
Inspired by his music teacher Ludger Edelkötter , Oertel played as a drummer and bassist in various rock , punk and reggae bands during his school and university days and, after graduating from high school, studied musicology with Bernd Enders at the University of Osnabrück from 1981 . There he worked intensively with electronic music and minimal music of Steve Reich , with whom he was in personal exchanges and founded the "Ensemble It" for concert performance whose work "Drumming" and other works of the early phase empire. The most successful performances include concerts at the Akademie der Künste in Berlin in 1987 and at the “Days of New Music” in Würzburg in 1989. He also received lessons in composition and composition from Matthias Wittekopf in Essen .
Through the "Osnabrück Experimental Film Workshop " (today the European Media Art Festival ) Oertel came into contact with film artists, for whom he created experimental sound and noise compositions.
He has lived in Berlin since 1987, initially studying musicology with Helga de la Motte (focus on synaesthesia music / image), but increasingly occupied himself with film sound and film music by participating in film projects at the German Film and Television Academy , where he attended seminars as a guest auditor . In 1995, he completed his training by attending the School of Audio Engineering (SAE) with a diploma in audio engineering.
Since 1989 he has worked professionally as a film composer and sound designer for TV and cinema films, and since 2000 also as a sound engineer and editor. He sees himself as a sound artist for the picture, who keeps the border areas between sound design and music composition flowing. As a film composer, he often worked with existing original sounds and, on the other hand, designed sound design in a musical way of thinking.
He is a member of the Filmton Professional Association and the German Film Academy .
