occupation

Schattenkinder is a German television film produced by WDR , which premiered at the Munich Film Festival in 2007 and was premiered on January 23, 2008 on Erste .

action

At the beginning of the film, little Agnes dies during a theater performance. She had been ill for a long time, but despite being hospitalized, the doctors could not find the cause. A short time later, Therese, Agnes' sister, begins to show the same symptoms. The single mother Sandra visits doctors again, reads medicine books and experiments with drug dosages. Christiane, Sandra's sister, becomes suspicious. When the two were little, Sandra had taken care of the sick mother. In the end it turns out that Sandra suffers from Munchausen Deputy Syndrome (called “Munchhausen by proxy” in the film). Christiane takes her niece away from her mother.

criticism

  • Rainer Tittelbach praises the script, cameraman Ngo The Chau and the actors.
  • Dieter Wunderlich describes the plot as "sensitive and without any gimmicky". Beata Lehmann portray "the mentally ill mother convincingly". The cameraman Ngo The Chau provides "with undercooled images for a sober atmosphere".
